The other night the boys where being really rowdy in the living room. I told them a couple of times to calm down and go downstairs, but I was a bit distracted by something in the kitchen so couldn't really reinforce what I saying. (I know, super parenting, Maren.)
Suddenly, there was a rather loud crash and the boys all went silent. It was like something out of a sit com. I went out to the living room to discover that a rather large framed picture, an antique music box, and a ceramic bird had been knocked off of the mantle.
Fortunately for the life of my children, neither the frame nor the antique music box (which was my maternal grandmother's and is slightly haunted because it sometimes plays at random times) (true story) were broken. But the bird was not so lucky.
And thus ends the life of the only decorative bird I have ever liked.
(Remember, I hate those life-like decorative birds, with their feathers
and their wee beady eyes...)
But I actually like this bird. It matched my living room and was cute and only cost me something like $3 at Hobby Lobby.
I could try to glue it back together and paint it, but I don't think it would be worth it. (I mean, I liked it and all, but I didn't LOVE it.)
The boys looked at me and I looked at them. I wasn't that ticked, but I didn't want them to think this was okay, especially since I had already warned the to calm down. "Go. Down. Stairs. NOW." All three had the good sense not to argue and ran full speed down the stairs. Tess thought it was a game and quickly followed.
It's nice to know that, when necessary, I can be pretty intimidating. :)

Hobby Lobby has very similar birdies in their Easter section (I almost bought one last week). Maybe after St. Patrick's Day they'll mark down their Easter and you can get a deal on another one!
