Scrapbooks - College - Sophomore Year - Heather's Bed

Yet another prime example of why we were often home alone on Friday nights... ;)

Hah! We had fun. So much fun. Weird fun, but fun.

I'm especially proud of the background on these pages - just like Heather's comforter!

Scrapbooks - College - Sophomore Year - The Yes Game

Why have I lost steam on this whole scrapbook thing? I have no idea. Life, the universe, and everything just gets in the way sometimes. I also think that part of it is that I still haven't figured out a good alternative for printing my blog now that Blurb no longer offers that service. You can either pay a ton of money for not great quality, or put in a ridiculous amount of work in Blurb, basically making a book from scratch. Yikes to both. So I'm not very motivated to do blog, which is dumb because it will always be on the interwebs now, but there's something about having it printed that I love.

Anywho, we did the Yes Game our Sophomore year as well, because we were cool like that. Those poor boys.

Looking through these pictures, what surprises me most is just how short my hair was at some point! Holy cow, I had forgotten that!

Easter 2016

This year I really tried to help our kids focus more on Christ during Easter. Starting on Palm Sunday each night we had a little devotional about Christ and what happened during that last week of his life. I'd put a corresponding picture up on the mantel, we'd talk about what happened, and then watch a little video about it. It... went okay. My kids are crazy at bedtime. And some of the videos weren't exactly exciting. I'll have to refine things next year.

The bunny paid us a visit Saturday morning. He left loaded bags (the bunny is a smart clearance shopper!) and tons of eggs around the house, most filled with candy but some with coupons for dates with Mommy and Daddy.

Cole was thrilled to get more Hot Wheels tracks. They have already been very well used.

Tess got three stuffed Ponies. We are all about My Little Ponies in this house now.

And cute bunny ears.

As per tradition, Josh whined about what he got but later admitted he liked it. Punk.

Despite the number of eggs the hunt did not last very long. (Older brothers are good hunters!)

I like to torture my kids and make them stand for a picture.

The great divide.

The kids spent most of the day lounging around, playing with toys, and eating candy. Lance and I finished the boys' bedroom. Around 5pm I realized we had not yet decorated eggs. I would have skipped it but both Tess and Cole mentioned wanting to do it, so I caved in. I'm glad I did. This little tradition made them both so happy!

Let me just first caveat the rest of the pictures with this: If my boys cared in the least about getting new ties or clothes for Easter, I would totally buy those things for them. But they don't. They are very set in their ways about what ties they wear, so even if I did buy them something new they probably wouldn't wear it. They also refused to take any one-on-one pictures. They are punks.

But Tess? Tess is all too willing to wear new clothes and get all dolled up and photographed. So that's why she's the star for the rest of this post!

I bought her dress on clearance last year; it's cute, but I kinda wish it were more poofy or fancy. Oh well, next year!

Tess decided she wanted curly hair, like some of her beloved Ponies. I had the feeling her hair would hold curl about as well as mine does (read: not well), and I was right. But she looked pretty cute first thing!

Love the tongue, Tess!

Little girls are so fun to dress up! Remember when she wouldn't pose for pictures? No more!

Posing with her new fluffy bunny. She's the cutest!

I dolled up for Easter, too.

I have also decided that I like shoes with bows on them. Totally impractical, totally cute.

I was able to strongarm a few pictures of my brood right before church. (I'm bummed our magnolia isn't blooming as well as usual this year... There's tons of buds, but they're waiting to bloom, which the rest of the neighborhood bushes looks magnificent. Sad.)

I told them to look like they like each other. This is the best I got. They refuse to touch, but at least they aren't fighting!

They were supposed to do goofy faces, but only Spencer got the memo. Josh claimed turning his back on the camera was goofy.

That evening we had the Elders and the Eastons over for dinner. But of course I only got a picture of the table. Dang it. It was a fun evening and a good way to end our Spring Break!

Boys' Room Redo

The last few days of Spring Break were busy busy, mainly because I decided to finally finish redoing the boys' room. (Hey, I had the new furniture. Why not just get it over with?) Why during Spring Break? Mainly because then I wouldn't have to worry as much about where the boys would sleep. Josh actually slept over at two different friends' homes and Cole slept on the trundle bed in Tess's room. The kids were actually really good about not bugging me too much or getting into things and I didn't have to worry about school stuff like homework and activities.

Lance took the old beds down Tuesday night. (I'm kicking myself for not taking a "before" picture.) By Wednesday it looked like this.

You'd think the actual painting would be the longest part, but it was quickest and easiest. The worst was all the prep - cleaning the room, cleaning the walls, taking down the dang wallpaper border. What a pain! All of this took me most of Wednesday. (In between all the other mom duties I had to take care of.)

That night I was beat and had no desire to make dinner. So we met Lance at IHOP since Dad & Susie had sent our family a gift card for Valentine's Day. (The boys have had a recent love affair with the place for some inexplicable reason.)

Cole was quite pleased with his chocolate-chocolate chip happy face pancake. (Which he covered in syrup. He basically just had sugar for dinner.)

Spencer made quick work of his pancake combo. That boy is a-growin'!

Miss Tess broke with convention and had mac and cheese and applesauce.

And Josh was a complete and utter grouch and we about left him at the restaurant. His pancakes should have had a grouchy face on them.

Thursday we had our friends the Souths over all day (and forgot to take pictures), so I didn't get much done other than buying paint. So I spent the entire day Friday painting and putting together Ikea furniture. On Saturday Lance helped finish all the furniture and we finally finished the entire room.

I love it.

The boys say they like it, but I don't think they love it as much as I do. And I don't care. I love it!

Here's a view looking into the room from the door. I did one accent wall in a dark blue and the rest in the same grey that I used in Spencer's room. I was concerned about paint coverage over the different colors of paint already on the wall, so I splurged on Behr Marquee paint and primer, which is their highest level of paint and was guaranteed to cover in one coat. It was excellent. The blue wall actually needed more like 1.5 coats, but I think that was mainly because it was such a dark color. The grey was perfect. Totally worth the money.

They're kinda hard to see, but there are drawers under their beds. Their dresser died on Wednesday and I was pretty ticked off about it since I had JUST been at IKEA and could have easily picked one up. But then I realized that the bed drawers had even more space than their dresser. So now their clothes are under their beds and we didn't have to waste any space on a dresser. Woo-hoo!

Cole's bed - the planets of course had to stay. I love the moon light above his bed. It comes with a little remote control that can turn it on and turn it to different phases.

We took down the closet doors because they were kinda broken and NEVER closed. I thought this might bother me, but it doesn't. It actually kinda opens the room up. And I know Josh does like this: "It's easier to get into."

Josh's bed. All those little things on his shelf are rubber bouncy balls - the Easter Bunny left a whole bunch in his basket because a few weeks ago he kept FREAKING OUT about losing a precious bouncy ball that he had never cared about before it went missing. Sheesh. Also, Minecraft Sword. Did you notice the swords above the bookshelf? They're from Disney World. Apparently we like swords.

Some day I'll get lamps for their nightstands, but for now they really don't need or want them.

It was a lot of work, but I think the room is so much nicer and brighter now! Plus, I can now reasonably expect them to actually make their beds in the morning, much to their dismay. (I didn't before because reaching their beds was such a pain.)
