Boys' Room Redo

The last few days of Spring Break were busy busy, mainly because I decided to finally finish redoing the boys' room. (Hey, I had the new furniture. Why not just get it over with?) Why during Spring Break? Mainly because then I wouldn't have to worry as much about where the boys would sleep. Josh actually slept over at two different friends' homes and Cole slept on the trundle bed in Tess's room. The kids were actually really good about not bugging me too much or getting into things and I didn't have to worry about school stuff like homework and activities. 

Lance took the old beds down Tuesday night. (I'm kicking myself for not taking a "before" picture.) By Wednesday it looked like this.

You'd think the actual painting would be the longest part, but it was quickest and easiest. The worst was all the prep - cleaning the room, cleaning the walls, taking down the dang wallpaper border. What a pain! All of this took me most of Wednesday. (In between all the other mom duties I had to take care of.)

That night I was beat and had no desire to make dinner. So we met Lance at IHOP since Dad & Susie had sent our family a gift card for Valentine's Day. (The boys have had a recent love affair with the place for some inexplicable reason.)

Cole was quite pleased with his chocolate-chocolate chip happy face pancake. (Which he covered in syrup. He basically just had sugar for dinner.)

Spencer made quick work of his pancake combo. That boy is a-growin'!

Miss Tess broke with convention and had mac and cheese and applesauce.

And Josh was a complete and utter grouch and we about left him at the restaurant. His pancakes should have had a grouchy face on them.

Thursday we had our friends the Souths over all day (and forgot to take pictures), so I didn't get much done other than buying paint. So I spent the entire day Friday painting and putting together Ikea furniture. On Saturday Lance helped finish all the furniture and we finally finished the entire room.

I love it.

The boys say they like it, but I don't think they love it as much as I do. And I don't care. I love it!

Here's a view looking into the room from the door. I did one accent wall in a dark blue and the rest in the same grey that I used in Spencer's room. I was concerned about paint coverage over the different colors of paint already on the wall, so I splurged on Behr Marquee paint and primer, which is their highest level of paint and was guaranteed to cover in one coat. It was excellent. The blue wall actually needed more like 1.5 coats, but I think that was mainly because it was such a dark color. The grey was perfect. Totally worth the money.

They're kinda hard to see, but there are drawers under their beds. Their dresser died on Wednesday and I was pretty ticked off about it since I had JUST been at IKEA and could have easily picked one up. But then I realized that the bed drawers had even more space than their dresser. So now their clothes are under their beds and we didn't have to waste any space on a dresser. Woo-hoo!

Cole's bed - the planets of course had to stay. I love the moon light above his bed. It comes with a little remote control that can turn it on and turn it to different phases.

We took down the closet doors because they were kinda broken and NEVER closed. I thought this might bother me, but it doesn't. It actually kinda opens the room up. And I know Josh does like this: "It's easier to get into."

Josh's bed. All those little things on his shelf are rubber bouncy balls - the Easter Bunny left a whole bunch in his basket because a few weeks ago he kept FREAKING OUT about losing a precious bouncy ball that he had never cared about before it went missing. Sheesh. Also, Minecraft Sword. Did you notice the swords above the bookshelf? They're from Disney World. Apparently we like swords.

Some day I'll get lamps for their nightstands, but for now they really don't need or want them.

It was a lot of work, but I think the room is so much nicer and brighter now! Plus, I can now reasonably expect them to actually make their beds in the morning, much to their dismay. (I didn't before because reaching their beds was such a pain.)
