The Breakup

One more week until the big move.  It's exciting and nerve-wracking, energizing and exhausting all at once.  There's so much to be done, but most of it has to wait until the day before, the day of, and the day after the move.  Oy.

Living in a home that you're moving out of soon is an interesting experience.  On one hand, it's sad to leave something you've put so much time and effort into (not to mention money) and have made so many happy memories in.  On the other hand, it's hard to be motivated enough to clean or put any more money into something you know you're leaving very soon.

I've decided it's like breaking up after a long term relationship.  Lance and I feel like we've had to explain to the house why we're dumping it moving.

Us: It's not you, house - it's us.  We really love you - we always will.  But we're in two different places in our lives right now.  We've outgrown you.  Literally.

House: *stony silence*

Us: We'll always have all of the wonderful memories we made with you.  Remember how excited Spencer was when we first moved in, and he just wandered happily from room to room?  Or how about when we brought Josh home from the hospital?  He was so fat and cute and... angry.  And loud.  And hungry.  Well, what about when Josh drew in permanent markers all over your office walls?  Or when he tore the front of the drawers off in our bathroom?  That was hilarious!  Err... what about when we put in the fence and grass in the back yard?  You looked so great!  I mean, um, you still do!  Oh, hey, remember when we brought Cole home from the hospital, and he peed on the wall in his bedroom... er...

House: *ice maker angrily starts crackling*

Us: Um, we can still be friends.  Really!  I'm sure we'll still see each other every now and then.  And you'll find someone new to love - someone better for you.  Very soon, in fact!  And they'll love you just as much as we did - maybe even more!

House: *more stony silence*

Us: Oh c'mon, don't act like that!  You had to have known this was coming; it can't have been a surprise.  All the signs were there... I mean, we both knew at the beginning that this wouldn't last forever, right?

House: *grumble of the house settling*

Us: Fine, whatever.  You know what?  This is why we're leaving.  You've never been willing to communicate or make a commitment!  We are so glad to be moving on to something bigger and better!  There!  We said it - happy now?!

At this point we're just hoping the house doesn't fall apart at all over the next week in a fit revenge.  Or hack into my Facebook account and start stalking me.  One of the two.
