February Funk

It is a well known fact that February is not my favorite month.  This year is no different.

Oh, nothing horrible has happened.  And I don't see anything too awful on the horizon.  But I find myself in a February Funk that I just can't seem to shake.  (This actually started in January, but January Funk just sounds stupid.)

Maybe it's because the holidays are long over and there's not really anything big to look forward to until Tess's birthday in April.  And February is cold and dark and so hard to love.

I've been thinking about this blog a lot lately, and about my writing.  I haven't been posting as much because I just can't seem to find the inspiration I usually have to write.  I just don't want to write lately, which is very unusual for me.  This makes me feel weird and out of sorts, but even recognizing this doesn't make me want to write.

And the whole "doing something you don't want to do will eventually make you want to do it" idea?  Doesn't really work in this situation.  I've tried.  My writing was terrible.

My philosophy for life is that you can find humor in just about any situation.  Thus all the posts about all the awfully funny things my family does.  But I just can't seem to find the humor anymore.  Is it because my kids aren't doing anything humorously appalling any more?  Or is it because a woman can only take cleaning up so many poop accidents before she starts losing her sense of humor and wallowing in self-pity instead?  (I'm not wallowing.  But perhaps I should try it out.  It sounds nice.)

I'm not depressed.  At least I don't think I am.  In fact, I'm pretty happy.  I've been exercising regularly again and eating less and better food and playing with my kids and cleaning the house and doing stuff for Young Womens and planning fun parties and reading my scriptures and just living life.

But I'm still in a funk.

I think I need a vacation.  (Oh wait - I'm taking one in March!  But that's soooo far away!) Or perhaps a good nap is needed?  Nope, I actually had a decent one yesterday.

So if my posting is sporadic for the next little while, it's February's fault.  Hopefully my mood will start to thaw come spring.

It is February's fault. Each February many of the homeschooling blogs start posting about ways to overcome their own version of a "February Funk." So its not just you. I think by February everyone has cabin fever and we are tired of all the colds and germs everywhere. Good luck surviving the "funk."

A good friend (who I will not name, lest she reads this and gets mad at me...not that she's the sort to get mad, but you know...) says the best thing for winter blahs is lots of bright light - she always brings up extra lamps from the basement and keeps her house bright. Hey, it might help? Or you can move here to DC, where it doesn't get very cold and is sunny most of the winter. It's hard to feel cooped up when you're, um, not :) Of course, we do have traffic...ick.
