Spencer's March Band Concert

Spencer had another band concert the other night. With him being in both Wind Ensemble and Jazz band it seems like we have band stuff all the time! (It's not that bad, and I know it'll be even more so in high school. It's just hard because Josh, Cole, and Tess aren't exactly thrilled to be going to these band concerts. Which means dealing with them at band concerts is not exactly fun.)

The Concert and Symphonic bands (6th & 7th grades) are SO big this year! We ended up arriving at the concert 30 minutes early just to get seats, because last concert we got there only 15 minutes early and got the very last seats. I like concerts, but not standing through them.

It was actually a very good concert. It's impressive how these bands improve over time! Their band director, Mr. Burnett, is very good and passionate about his job. (Extra kudos to him, because I suspect it is often hard to work with middle school musicians!)

Here are some videos from the jazz band. (I didn't do any of the Wind Ensemble this time because they're having a competition on Friday and I figure I'll record it then.) Spencer played the piano for two of the pieces and he did great! It's hard to accompany other musicians (or singers) on the piano, so this is great experience for him.





We brought books and toys for the littles to play with, plus some candy for bribery. It worked pretty well, although both Cole and Tess each fell out of the chairs at some point. What is it about folding chairs that makes them so hard to stay in for little kids?

While the other bands played I could only ever see the back of Spencer's head - he was always turned around and chatting with his buddies. That boy is social!

This was toward the end of the concert. It was only and hour long, but it felt longer. (Sorry, Spencer.)

Can't you see how excited his siblings were to be there to support him?!
