Tess: UFC Prize Fighter

I think Tess is an undercover UFC fighter.  I keep discovering random bruises and scratches all over the child.  Yesterday I *think* she picked a fight with the basement couch.  (I'm not sure because I wasn't downstairs at the time.)

Needless to say, the couch won.

My little prize fighter got quite a bit of attention over her battle wound at the grocery store today - she loved it.

Poor Birdy

The other night the boys where being really rowdy in the living room.  I told them a couple of times to calm down and go downstairs, but I was a bit distracted by something in the kitchen so couldn't really reinforce what I saying.  (I know, super parenting, Maren.)

Suddenly, there was a rather loud crash and the boys all went silent.  It was like something out of a sit com. I went out to the living room to discover that a rather large framed picture, an antique music box, and a ceramic bird had been knocked off of the mantle.

Fortunately for the life of my children, neither the frame nor the antique music box (which was my maternal grandmother's and is slightly haunted because it sometimes plays at random times) (true story) were broken.  But the bird was not so lucky.

And thus ends the life of the only decorative bird I have ever liked.  (Remember, I hate those life-like decorative birds, with their feathers and their wee beady eyes...)

But I actually like this bird.  It matched my living room and was cute and only cost me something like $3 at Hobby Lobby.

I could try to glue it back together and paint it, but I don't think it would be worth it.  (I mean, I liked it and all, but I didn't LOVE it.)

The boys looked at me and I looked at them.  I wasn't that ticked, but I didn't want them to think this was okay, especially since I had already warned the to calm down.  "Go. Down. Stairs.  NOW."  All three had the good sense not to argue and ran full speed down the stairs.  Tess thought it was a game and quickly followed.

It's nice to know that, when necessary, I can be pretty intimidating. :)

Bed Head

I'm sure this comes to no surprise to any of you with little girls, but Tess will never let her piggy tails stay in when she's taking a nap.  She either takes them out before she sleeps or after, I don't know.

Hardly matters.  What matters is that if we have to go somewhere in the afternoon then I can't do her hair until after her nap.  Otherwise I'll find her like this.

Yes, these were about as fun to take out as you can imagine.

By the way, this is her most favorite outfit ever.  Every morning I say "What do you want to wear today?" and she'll say "Monkeee!  Monkeee!"  I don't know if she truly loves the outfit or if it's just the only word she know associated with her clothes.

Snow Evening

We got a pretty good snow fall this evening.  Lance decided to go out and plow the driveway and sidewalks.  I decided Cole should go out with him, because the poor kid has been cooped up inside a bunch with the cold weather.  Then Spencer decided to go out.  And then Josh. And by that point I decided that Tess and I might as well go out, too, since Tess would FREAK OUT if she saw her brothers go outside without her.

It took a good 20 minutes just getting everyone in their snow gear, but we finally made it out.  This was Tess's first real time out in the snow.  She's just been too little in the past for me to make the effort of getting her all bundled up.  (I'm a lazy mom, I know.)  Since she doesn't have boots and was just wearing her tennis shoes with a couple of pairs of socks, I figured she would stay out for 10 minutes or so and then she'd want to go back in.

An HOUR later and I was dragging her, kicking and screaming, into the house.  That girl LOVES the snow!

Poor Cole was not loving the snow at first.  It kept blowing in his eyes.   But soon he was showing Tess the joys of eating snow.  What is it with kids and eating snow?

Lance workin' away with the snowblower.  He thought I was weird that I thought he was weird for wearing his work shoes when he has some perfectly lovely snow boots.  Perhaps he just wants an excuse to buy some new shoes...

Cole and Tess were pretty impressed with the snow blower.

So was Josh - he kept getting hit by the snow on purpose.

I think toddlers in snow gear are so dang cute.  A big thanks to Gigi for the pink snow bibs.  I hope they still fit her next year!  Tess looks like a Valentine in that red coat.  Madsen Fun Fact: All four of my children have now worn that red coat.  I bought it for Spencer the first winter we lived here. It cost $20, which seemed a fortune to me at the time because we were living on a grad school budget.  (Which is pretty much nothing.)  But now that all four kids have worn it I feel justified in the expense!  I remember I purposely bought a red coat because I figured it was a color both boys and girls could wear.

Snow... *nom*nom*nom*

Tessie would slip and have a had time getting up.  So she'd wait semi-patiently for me to come get her.  I really wanted to take a picture this one time she was stuck on her back, but she was not patient at all then!  I was amazed that she actually kept her mittens on the entire time and never tried to take them off - I've NEVER had a toddler do that before!  (Obviously girls have a bit more common sense... ;)

Uh-oh - stuck in the deeper snow!

She was so dang cute waddling around, I couldn't help but take some video of her.  I also got some footage of silly Josh and the snowblower.

It was dark by the time we came in.  For the first time in months Tess didn't fight it when I put her in the crib - the girl was exhausted!

Josh's Love Letter to Tess

Darling darlingness.

Pooooooooooop!!

*****UPDATE*****

Cole pooped in his pants this afternoon.  I knew it would happen, just maybe not quite so soon.  *sigh*

Still, there's hope.

*****END OF UPDATE*****

Cole just pooped in the potty for the first time!  Hip hip hooray!

I'm not naive enough to think this will be the end of our potty woes.  But it is a start, and I'll take it.
