So I feel like the world's worst mother today. Especially because yesterday I was feeling like such a good mom for Josh.
Poor Spencer.
He woke up this morning with a really gross infected finger. (The index finger of his right hand, in case you're wondering.) I mean, really gross. So gross that I didn't take a picture of it for the blog because... ewww. It was all red and swollen and green and puss-filled... I don't believe I've used the word puss-filled in my blog before, and to be honest I'm kinda surprised it's taken me two years.
Anyway. Back to poor Spencer.
I didn't even know he had a cut on his finger. And of course he had no idea where the cut happened or when. So I called the doctor and set up an appointment for this afternoon. (That's how gross the finger was. Because, as you will soon see, I am most definitely not one of those mommas who runs off to the doctor for every little thing.)
We soaked the finger off an on all day and kept it bandaged and clean. So of course by the time we were about to leave for the doctor it looked a lot better. (Still gross, but better.) I even toyed with the idea of canceling the appointment, but decided in the end to still go since I had some forms for Kindergarten to fill out.
The doctor was impressed with the finger but not sure whether or not antibiotics would be necessary. But then I asked her to check Spencer's lungs, since he had had this weird cough for a few weeks. He would have these coughing fits in the morning and the evening. It was really dry coughing and sounded like he was faking it, only I knew he wasn't because it had gone on so long.
She checked him out and then checked his throat. And then immediately ordered a strep test.
Bingo.
The kid has a raging case of strep throat.
Poor Spencer.
In my defense, he hadn't been acting sick at all. Really and truly, he had been perfectly normal except for that cough.
But if it hadn't been for that gross finger I wouldn't have even taken him in.
I feel terrible. And I think my throat is starting to feel sore.
Worst. Mom. Ever.
Oh - and poor Spencer.

2 of my 3 had scarlet fever and I didn't know it. For like weeks. Probably infected the whole school district. So you're the 2nd worse mom ever. ;0
Poor guy, but don't beat yourself up too much. My kids have the problem of not telling me when they feel sick or if something is bothering them. One night I was taking my oldest to swimming and I thought she looked a little tired, so I kept asking her if she was and she said no. Well about 5 minutes later she puked all over the car...ok she was feeling nausea?? I was so confused how come she didn't notice this feeling, felt bad for dragging her to swimming in her condition.
Poor guy - but in your defense he seemed fine Tuesday. Like the horrible ear infection Jase had a couple weeks ago and when I took him in for his really loose cough he'd had for a couple weeks, his right ear was so red and swollen the Dr said he couldn't hear from it - talk about feeling bad...
It's nice to know I'm in good company in the 'bad' mom's club. :)
