Today Spencer got to go to a water park with a friend, so I treated the youngest three to a round of Monster Mini Golf. Josh was SO EXCITED!!!!! (I cannot stress the excitement enough.)
I was... willing to take these three kids mini golfing. I was not excited. It went just about as expected: Josh cheated a lot and pouted when I did better than he did, Tess gave up after three holes, and Cole gave up around hole 8, and then came back at random moments for holes 12-18. There was much wandering and saying "Hey, get out of my way!" and telling Cole and Tess that the monsters and such around the place were not real.
I like having fun with my kids, but this was not fun for me. It was one of those mothering moments where you grit your teeth, smile and laugh and pretend to have a good time because your kids need to you to. The sacrifices of motherhood, amiright?
Tonight I used my new bamboo steamer for the first time. (I picked it up at a local store last week.) I would like to say I made all the dumplings, but ain't nobody got time for that right now. No, I used all the frozen ones I picked up at the Asian Market the other day, which I consider probably more authentic than anything I could make.
They were super-duper tasty and, as you can see, very plentiful. Wonder of wonders, Josh actually ate some. I was bummed because the market didn't have any shrimp dumplings like the ones I had in Taiwan. But they did have frozen milk bread, which I am planning to steam for breakfast one of these days. (I'm sure my kids will just love that!) ((Insert sarcasm font.))
I told Lance that if we ever had a chance to serve a foreign mission I would totally go native and learn how to cook like the locals of wherever we were. He was not the least big surprised by any of this, although he did ask if that would be true for England. Um, no. Unless that meant Indian food, then yes. (If you've ever been to London then you know why that is funny.)
