Okay, this is getting ridiculous. I am seriously forgetting about stuff from our trip. This is why I should blog more often again. But then I think about blogging and feel guilty for not blogging about the trip, so I don't do anything. It's a vicious cycle.
Whatever. Here goes.
So the first few days in Provo were pretty mild. That's because we needed to recover from the horror that was driving from Denver to Provo. Wait, okay, it wasn't THAT bad. But it wasn't fun.
My dad got out the trusty Red Rider BB gun. I only got out there for when Cole was shooting. He was really digging it, but having a really hard time since his arms were just a little too short to hold the gun properly.
The ladder helped a little.
My dad had printed zombie targets. Because his grandchildren need to be prepared for the zombie apocalypse. My dad is pretty awesome.
One day we went to Chuck-A-Rama for lunch because that's my kids' favorite Utah restaurant. It is haute cuisine to their picky palates. I don't know that it's as great as they think it is, but it's not bad. And it's a buffet, so even the pickiest child can find something they like. Win.
So this summer marked 20 years since I graduated from high school. I didn't go to my reunion because they ended up not having one - well, I wouldn't have gone anyways. But I decided what I really wanted to do was hang out with some of my old freshman roommates from BYU - it was our 20th reunion as well! Mindi and Heather live in UT and Stacey happened to be out for her high school reunion, so we all got together for the evening. We went to the Provo City Center temple and then had dinner at a Belgian waffle place down the street.
The whole night was amazing. I was a little nervous right before - all those old high school insecurities seem to sneak up on you at the weirdest times. Would we still all get along? Would it be awkward? How do I look?
But all those dumb things faded away. We could have chatted for hours! We did chat for hours, but we could have talked for even longer. We were all grown up but all the same as well. It was just so great to reconnect with these amazing women. The one thing I'll always remember from the night was talking about how each of us had had a big strange/dramatic type thing happen in each of our families, and getting a feeling of "Hey! I'm not alone! Everyone has issues like this." We are all still very active in church, all married, all have kids, and all enjoy being moms. I'm so lucky to have them as friends. (Hooray for FB helping us to keep in touch.)
We ended the evening sharing this heavenly waffle dessert. Crispy waffle, vanilla ice cream, Biscoff, and berries. How could we go wrong?
