You Know Spring Has Sprung When... (with lots of random side notes)

You find momma birds nesting in your bushes.

For some reason this bird chose the bush right next to the garage, so it has to deal with the mini van brushing by all the time.  Stupid bird. Also, it's a pigeon, which I'm not a big fan of.  Aren't there enough flying rats in the world?  However, it's low enough that all three boys can easily check on her whenever they want.

Your bushes start blossoming.

This is getting pretty, although I have to admit my extreme sadness in not discovering any daffodils or tulips on our property this year.  Apparently the last owners never bothered with bulb plants.  Part of the problem is that all of our flower beds are covered in rock instead of bark.  In most ways this is really nice - minimal weeding, low maintenance, the rock lasts forever, etc.  But I kinda doubt that bulb plants would like growing there.  I'm bound and determined to plant some tulips and daffodils this fall, though.  I just have to figure out where... Suggestions?

Toddlers start going pantsless and destroying our bed.

Cole had a blowout late in the day.  It was at least 70 degrees, and I'm all about minimizing the amount of laundry that needs to be done, and he won't hold still long enough for me to put pants on anyway.  Destroying the bed doesn't have anything to do with Spring, but Cole sure does like doing it lately.

Josh the Author

Josh has turned into an author.  He likes to dictate the stories and I write them down, generally word for word.

Sometimes he illustrates, but this time he made me.  Aren't my dinosaur drawing skills awesome?  Don't hate.

I decided against drawing them eating the dog, but I did draw some raw meat, which is a sentence I never foresaw myself writing on my blog.

Fabric Flowers

Last week there was a small RS activity that taught us how to make all sorts of cute flowers for little girl headbands.  A year ago I would have turned my nose up at this activity.  Now?  I think I was the first one to sign up! :)

The flower I liked best was made of poly-satin, tulle, and organza.  This is the one I made at the activity.

I love it.  And it is way too huge and cute to put on a baby.  So I claim it as mine, at least until she's 18 or so.

I might have to find a dress to match this lovely flower.  Post-baby, of course.

I also make a green one.  It's also mine all mine.

And three little ones that I suppose a baby could use.  If I'm feeling nice.

I also made these fabric ones a while ago.  They're pretty cute, but I think I need poofier fabric.

Unrelated side note: the "l" button on my computer is not working very well.  It's quite annoying. llllllllllllll Nope, no better.

Self-portrait: Week 38 - Josh Gets In On the Action

This is what happens

when you try to do a self-timed shot

with a four year old in the room.

Obviously Josh is currently on the see-food diet.  Awesome job, Josh.

So anywho, here I am at 38 weeks.  My belly can barely be contained, hence the fancy dress up clothes I am in today.

Recognize this shirt?

Maybe I'll win another one this weekend!  (Fingers crossed!)

Ode to Pregnancy Heartburn

Oh, how you pain me!
Does not matter what I eat
Nor the time of day.

Middle of the night.
Is it the storm that wakes me?
No. Stupid heartburn.

I hate you, heartburn.
No, really. I loathe you much.
Oh, how I hate you.

In case you haven't guessed yet, I'm having major issues with heartburn.  It's not constant - yet - but it is quite frequently, especially at night.  I've never had this symptom with my other pregnancies, so I guess I can just explain the difference on the gender of the baby.  Then again, there's that old wives tale that says the more heartburn during pregnancy the more hair the baby will have.  My last three babies have been bald, bald, bald, so I guess we'll just have to wait and see how much hair this little girl has!

Conference Flowers

Today was general conference.  Since I am so very, very pregnant and not hardly sleeping at night anymore, I knew I needed a project to work on so I wouldn't sleep through it all.

I spent all four hours (and then some) making cute wool felt flowers for baby girl headbands.  You can find the tutorial here.  Maybe tomorrow I'll get brave and start making some of my own patterns.

I'm pretty sure I'll have the cutest baby girl ever.  With these flowers stuck to her noggin she'll be an unstoppable force!

What do you do during conference?  (Besides listen, of course...)

Cheese Ball Logic

You know you're 37 weeks pregnant when you let your four-year-old talk you into buying the 35oz barrel of cheese balls at Sam's Club because you have neither the energy nor the cognitive capabilities to refute his argument that "Cheese makes your bones strong and the cheese balls have lots of cheese!"

How do you like that aerial belly shot?

Well played, Josh, well played.
