Piggy Cakes

I have a good friend named Heidi.  We've known each other for around four years now.  We both like cooking, baking, reading, ER, and have lots of other stuff in common. We even had babies a day apart in the same hospital; her husband stopped to chat with me while I was panting away in the regristration area.  (And being pregnant at the same time as another woman creates a special bond, you know?)

We're no longer in the same ward and live across town from each other, so we really only get to see each other once a month at bunco.  But Heidi is the type of friend who, even if you don't see each other often, knows when you need a good friend.

So last week while I was feeling particularly gross and picked on about life in general, Heidi called me up and offered to bring me dinner.  I was only too happy and said something along the lines of "YES PLEASE!!"

That night Heidi brought over a yummy casserole and cilantro rice.  But even better were these:

Yes, piggy cakes.  In celebration of my bout with swine flu.  Nice.  (Did I mention we also have the same sense of humor?)

I was feeling pretty crummy from the strep and antibiotics, so I wasn't very chatty or fun.  But Heidi, thank you!  You really made my (and the boys') night.

But there's more: I also have a wonderful visiting teacher named Melissa.  Melissa has been my visiting teacher since we moved into this house three and a half years ago.  We've each had two babies in that time (well, she's working on her second); that's a lot of lessons and meals and such.

Anywho, Melissa called me earlier in the week and offered a meal, but I turned her down because: a) she's pregnant and I didn't want her anywhere near the germ factory that was my body, b) I actually felt a little better that day (although I felt a lot worse the next), and c) I'm sometimes a dummy.

After I posted about getting strep, like any good visiting teacher Melissa called me back and pretty much insisted on bringing us a pizza that evening.  This time I was smarter and accepted.  She later showed up with a hot, fresh, no-tip-required pizza. Thank you, Melissa - I really needed that.

And a bit more: I had several people call and email me on a regular basis to give me support and just check in and probably make sure I was still alive.  I really appreciated it.  Sometimes it just felt better to complain to someone for a while.  Thank you.

Not-so-fun week disregarded, I am truly blessed.
