It used to be impossible to get either Josh or Spencer to say any prayers other than at bedtime. They'd have none of it.
Now? Fights. Every day. "My turn!" "No! It's mine!" "Waaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!" Apparently they are now a very spiritual set of brothers.
This morning as I put breakfast on the table, Spencer sat down and then suddenly got up and ran out of the room yelling "I have to go potty!" (Because in our house if you have to go potty you announce it to the world. Loudly.)
Since Josh was still at the table I asked him to say the prayer. From the bathroom we then heard "Nooooooo!!! I say prayer!!!" Spencer came streaking (in all senses of the word) back to the table, demanding that he say the prayer.
I told him that boys who leave the table suddenly and then come back naked don't get to say the prayer. Sorry. All the while he and Josh yelled back and forth at each other "It's my turn to say the prayer!" "No, it's mine!" "No, it's mine!"
I secretly prayed that I could go back to bed, but knew that would take a miracle and I'm not that righteous.
After much weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth Spencer stomped back to the bathroom. Josh said the prayer.
A few minutes later Spencer came back to the table and quite snidely remarked "I said a prayer. In the bathroom."
"What?!" Josh roared
"I said a prayer! So there." Spencer responded.
Josh stuttered and yelled and literally shook his fist and then said "There! Your prayer is off" and he waved his fist as if he had a magic wand. I thought it kinda weird that Josh used a magic wand; not for the logic of it but because he thought of it. We're not really a magic wand kind of family around here. (We're more sword and gun people, at the moment.)
"No it's not!" yelled Spencer.
"Yes, it is!" said Josh, with more wand waving.
Back and forth back and forth until I finally told them that the next one who spoke wouldn't get to play any computer games today. Then I explained that you couldn't turn off a prayer, so knock it off.
"Yes you can!" interrupted Josh. "I turned it off because I'm player number one!"
*facepalm*
He hadn't been waving a wand. He had been pretending to use a Wii controller.

ha! hilarious!
Way too funny...you should try making a prayer chart. We did it for each meal of the day, scripture reading, and family prayer. It has helped immensely.
I swear I was reading this and thinking that this was my life I was reading...except we have a few more people in the fight. The older, wiser kids just stay out of it most of the time...but my 5, 4, & 2 year old go at it for every meal! I like the prayer chart, that is a great suggestion! Hang in there Maren, you can always escape to the bathroom...it has a lock! :)
