It seems like most years one of my kids wants a Halloween costume that requires a lot more work than seems logical or wise. When Cole loudly proclaimed that he wanted to be THE SOLAR SYSTEM this year - and nothing else - I knew this year he was that kid.
You know, just a solar system costume, Mom. No big deal.
It actually hasn't been as bad as I thought it would be. But still.
Behold my masterpiece! He will be wearing a yellow shirt and a yellow sun hat I made to complete the look. It's amazing what a girl can do with a $3 Wal-Mart hoola hoop, some styrofoam balls, and some wire, paint, fabric, and paper from around the house.
Cole was quite disappointed when I told him, no, I would not be including the moons for each planet. Not even one Jupiter's 63. (I'm a stick in the mud.) ((Also, ain't nobody got time for that.)) He then pointed out that my sizes were not to scale and I would have to try again. I pointed out that I didn't know nearly as much as he did about space and that he would just have to forgive my ignorance. And take it or leave it, this was all he was getting out of me. This mollified him. Until he then asked how the planets spun. As in, why don't these planets orbit me (the sun)? At which point I threw him out of the room. Not really. But I wanted to. Instead I told him that that was beyond my capabilities, which he accepted a little too readily for my taste.
I've already decided his candy bag will be the first one I raid Halloween night...
