Last Kindergarten Field Trip Ever

Monday was Tess's last Kindergarten field trip ever - and mine, too!

I think I would have been in a better mood for this field trip, but it was my 3rd field trip to chaperone in less than a month and the weather was not very good. However, despite my reservations about going, I'm glad I did, if only to spend some time with that sweet girl of mine!

First we went to the Celery Bog. Miss Lenhardt wanted a class picture. Getting all those squirmy Kindergarteners to hold still was about as fun and easy as you would think. Good heavens!

This has been an interesting class. I think there have been several fairly difficult students, who have made life difficult for Miss Lenhardt and not so fun for their classmates. Unfortunately, some classes are just like that. Tess seems to be doing fine and holding her own, though.

Here's Ki'Mari - he was in my group and he was a hand full! However, I quickly discovered that if you just left him alone and didn't boss him around more than absolutely necessary, he was a pretty good kid. Some of the other moms didn't quite get that; I think they felt like I wasn't getting after him enough. (I let them know I was perfectly aware of what he was doing and where he was, even if he was 20 feet away from me. *gasp* 20 feet?!? A helicopter mom I am not.)

Miss Tess sure loved getting lots of attention from me! (Too much, in fact. She had a couple of little fits when she didn't get her way. Yikes.)

But for the most part she did great!

The lady on the right has been teaching the kids all year about nature. Here she was teaching them about how soil is made. Tess was having great fun here, but 1 minute later was freaking out. Tess has this thing where she thinks it's funny to be overly dramatic and fall down any chance she can get. And being in this group of kids? The perfect place to fall! So she did. Totally on purpose. Onto the muddy, muddy ground. I had warned her several times not to do this. She did not listen. She got muddy and wet and miserable. I was not empathetic.

After the bog we drove to Columbian Park. We sat next to Zaidlin, who is the quietest, shyest kid I've ever met. Super cute, though.

During lunch at the park it got cold and windy and wet. It was Not Fun. I had dressed in lots of layers and wore my galoshes and was still cold. I was glad I had forced Tess into wearing lots of layers, too! Several of the kids only had thin shirts, and even some of the moms wore summer clothes and white shoes. What the what, moms?! I guess I'm old now that I prefer practicality to fashion.

At the little zoo we had a great presentation from some of the zoo keepers. We even got to pet a bearded dragon lizard.

And a three-banded armadillo!

Even though it was cold and wet, we still got to ride the train around the park, which the kids LOVED. This girl sure loves riding the train!

And sitting with her momma!

One last class photo at the zoo.

After field trips you can take your child home with you, which my kids love. My kids also love that we now get treats after field trips - their choice. (Within reason, of course.) Tess chose a doughnut from Mary Lou's.

A girl after my own heart. She had a powdered sugar cake doughnut and I had a cake doughnut with chocolate glaze and coconut. The perfect snack after such a rather chilly day!
