I put up my Halloween decorations the other night. Hooray! Even though it's literally 89 degrees out, it is officially Fall in my book!
I warned you in this post about my obsession with pumpkins. Now it's time for the proof. I took pictures of most of the pumpkins I put out. (And no, I didn't put them all out because I didn't have space for them! But a lack of space means nothing - if you see any cute pumpkins on sale let me know!)

I put most of the pumpkins on the mantel, on top of the piano, and in our entertainment center cabinets - away from curious little hands.
Here's all my 'shiny' pumpkins. I bought the ones in the lower right corner last year on clearance for something crazy like $3 a piece (originally around $15!) Nice.

The pumpkin in the top right corner is the one my mom gave me the first year I was married, and it's still my favorite. (It's a lantern, and I just love it's goofy grin when a candle is in it.) I always coveted the one in the upper left corner and inherited it the year after my mom died - it really reminds me of her.
The bottom pumpkin was always out during October when I was a little kid. (I think my mom made it for Relief Society or something.)
These pumpkins are extra special because they were given to me from friends. The top bowl was a birthday gift from my good friends Ashley & Graham. The candle was given to me from the faboo Gigi Ream. (There are two of them, and they kinda melted a little in the attic this summer. Dang. Guess I'll have to burn them on Halloween!) My sweet friend Laura Mueller gave me the pumpkin third down - Spencer loves looking in it for treats! The bottom pumpkin is one that I made for a Young Women activity when I was 13. My mom saved it and gave it to me one year in college.
The pumpkin on the left is real brass. (Or so I'm told.) My aunt bought it in Turkey for my mom. It wins the 'most exotic' pumpkin prize. (Does anyone else find it odd that they make brass jack-o-lanterns in Turkey?)
The lamp is a Maren Madsen original. The original lamp was a wedding gift (from someone on Lance's side of the family!) - it originally had a white shade and a weird metal bird's nest full of fake robin eggs on one of the branches. Yeah, dead tree lamps not so much my style. And we couldn't return it anywhere. So, lemons to lemonade - dead tree lamp to Halloween dead tree lamp! I painted the lampshade and put a black light bulb in it. Too cool!
Okay, these aren't pumpkins, but they're still cute! The witch lantern in the middle now holds our prodigious remote control collection.

You need to win something for all of your cuteness with pumpkins. I don't know what. . .but this amazed me. The best part was your analysis and memories of each one! That was great!
Wow Maren - you go all out with pumpkins! I think it is really neat, but I think Joe would kill me if I got that into collecting anything (other than Christmas music which we both love to listen to year round)...
Maren I'm so glad you like your candles! I may have another set so will look and see. If not, I'll keep my eyes open for some more for you.
Also, it's nice to see a grand collection like yours. I have one of Nutcrackers. I have loved the ballet since childhood and started collecting them for Christmas the year I came home from my mission. It's now twenty years later and I have more than I can display too! Perhaps you'll come and see them sometime. They are always ready for company during the holidays. Ü

Yay! I'm glad you all like my collection.
I almost hate to admit it, but I seem to have inadvertently started another Halloween collection - donut cutters. Andrea gave me one last year, and then I found a couple in different sizes that I wanted to try out. I've also seen some in different shapes that I'm tempted to buy.
Lance just shakes his head with a grin that says "you are one crazy chic, but I'll put up with it as long as you keep feeding me". I have a good husband. :)
Perhaps I need to join some sort of 12 step program for Halloween collectors...
OOOOOOOO, now I'm so excited to come and see them in person at your Halloween party! And eat the doughnuts too!!!
What about the gourds? Weren't you once into gourds? Do they have good BYU creamery-quality pumpkin pie ice cream in Lafayette? If not, you should get some when you're in Utah. And take a self-timed picture. Underneath a table too. : )
