So 36 isn't really that big of a deal. I mean, yeah, it's not that exciting. So it's fitting that my day was spent putting up Christmas lights, editing papers, cleaning, and going to a RS presidency meeting. In other words, a pretty average day.
In the morning I decided I wasn't going to make my bed because it was my birthday. But then it bugged me so I made it anyway. Then I decided I wasn't going to edit - but a good paper came up so I broke down and did that, too. I wasn't going to run any errands, but Josh came home in DESPERATE need of having his glasses adjusted, so off we went. I also wasn't going to sweep or mop, but Tess made an epic mess on the floor, so yeah. I pretty much did all the stuff I said I wasn't going to do because it was my birthday.
But you know what I stuck to my guns about not doing? Making my cake. And you know why I didn't make my cake?
Because my awesome friend, Heidi, offered to make it for me!!!
Yes, this is the same Heidi who has made cakes for us in the past. (Susie's birthday, Lance's birthday, and a few other random times as well, I'm sure.) This is also the same Heidi who has 5 kids, the youngest of which is 3 months old. Heidi is Wonder Woman. She dropped off this Chocolate Cherry piece of goodness and then we got to visit for a while, which was really nice. She lives over in West Lafayette, and even though it's only a 15-20 minute drive it's like she lives in Timbuktu for how often we get to see each other. I also got my baby fix holding cutie-pie Abigail for a while. What a darling baby!
So I'm adding this picture because 1) the cake looks totally different with candles on it, right?, and 2) our dinner is kinda in the background. Usually we go out for dinner on someone's birthday, but the night was just too busy so we had the second best thing: Papa Murphy's pizza. Yum.
I let Spencer take the pictures while I blew out the candles and opened presents. Family events through the eyes of an (almost) 10 year old are pretty interesting. Josh, of course, wouldn't hold still.
And fire is always interesting - but not the person using the fire.
Pictures of mom opening gifts are interesting. Just not good pictures of mom.
Close ups with the flash? Always a good idea!
Yes, those are Cinnamon Jolly Ranchers. They went along with the whole "fire" theme of my gifts this year. Tess gave me fire red nail polish, someone else gave me a necklace that glows like fire, I got this candy...
... and this Game of Thrones cookbook. Haha, it's pretty funny.
But my favorite fire gift is this Bayou Classic propane grill. My friend Kanien has one and uses it for canning. I saw it once and immediately fell in love. Lance received a discreet email when it went on sale...
The last part of my fire gifts was getting to finally go see "Catching Fire" on Friday night with Lance. First we went to Mountain Jacks, I think because Lance said something about fire and meat or something. I can't remember now. Anywho, it's a steak place and I had never been and it was delicious! In the spirit of the theme I got the whiskey peppercorn top sirloin (whiskey = firewater) and it was heavenly. The movie was great, too, as was the fact that Lance set up the babysitting and everything. (Not so great - the babysitter couldn't get the kids to bed. Sheesh.)
So, although 36 isn't that big of deal as far as birthdays go, I still had a pretty great one.

My neighbor uses a propane grill for his canning and I think it is pretty ingenious. Keeps all the heat outside. He offered to let me borrow it, but I couldn't figure out how to keep the kids away.
Happy Birthday!
