Like a Moth to a Flame

We have been working working working on the backyard. We thought the dirt in our backyard had lots of rocks in it, but in reality our backyard is made of rocks with just a little dirt in it. (Which is why we've decided to fork out the money for a bunch of topsoil next week!) Check out our rock pile - and this is probably only about half of what we've dug up!!

During this whole long process Spencer has been "helping". He likes to dig with a garden trowel, throw dirt in the air, and generally get in the way as much as possible. In other words, he's a typical three year old.
It's seems to be physically impossible for him to keep out of the dirt. He is attracted to it like a moth to a flame. And if the sprinkler is on in the front yard, there is nothing in this world that can keep him out of the water and then run directly in the dirt.

It's a good thing we have a big sink in the garage, where he can get a pre-bath before his actual bath inside! Even then, it takes about three tries to wash all of the dirt out of his hair, and a fine layer of mud is left at the bottom of the tub.

Josh also "helps". He sits in his baby cage, chews on toys, watches his brother, and eventually gets tired and/or hungry and whines until he gets a bottle. Then he drinks his bottle and goes back to playing. I'm not sure how, but he also manages to get quite dirty. I think it might have something to do with all of the dirt throwing by a certain older brother.
What are little boys made of?
Snips and snails and puppy dog tails
- and a fine layer of dirt -
that's what little boys are made of!
