Tonight we finally got out to Tropicanoe Cove. We've been meaning to go all summer, but this is the first Family Night (when prices are much cheaper!) where the weather's been hot enough to make it worth it. Too bad it's also the last family night of the season. School starts way early here!
A few highlights:
1. More like a lowlight - Spencer proved that he has no fear of water and even less
common sense. We had just gotten out of the lazy river. Lance turned around for 3 seconds to grab Josh from my lap, and Spencer was gone. We both looked for him and called for him for a good 2 minutes. And then I saw him - being rescued by the life guard! The stinker had run up the stairs to the toucan chute slides, cut in line, and gone down the slide before anyone knew what was happening. The landing pool is 6 feet deep and the child hasn't gone to swimming lessons yet. So I stood at the side of the pool while everyone around us watched Spencer be rescued. As soon as he was out I grabbed and hugged him, and then immediately started lecturing and being upset! (Perfectly normal under the circumstances!) We had to fill out an incident report. I felt like the WORST MOM EVER. Spencer was a bit water-logged, but didn't seem to understand what the big deal was.
2. While waiting in line to go down the big water slide, Sweet Caroline by Neil Diamond started playing. I was listening to the babble of the two 13 year old girls in front of me. One of them said, "Man, the music here sucks!" and then continued on about some boy she liked. I just smiled and laughed to myself and wondered what Christy would have said to them.
3. Josh splashing and playing in the water. He LOVED it! He even put his face in the water and blew bubbles. Not bad for a baby!
4. Floating down the lazy river, just enjoying the cool water and the heat of the evening.

Poor Mom. Who hasn't had a moment of total humiliation thanks to their kid. You are not a bad mom at all. I've always wondered if the life guards at those kinds of places are actually paying attention to the kids or are just working on their tans...hmmmm, good to know they are watching. See...Spencer was just trying to keep them on their toes! I love love love your song of the day, and who doesn't love Sweet Caroline?? I want to play your fun game too. The song of the day for me was 88 Lines About 44 Women by The Nails. Ahhhh...some days are just madness!!!
Kids, today. Hmmph. I probably would have asked to speak to their mothers! What kind of kids these days don't grow up with a healthy respect for all things NEIL?
I may have just started singing the classic backup to that song, "SO GOOD! SO GOOD! SO GOOD!". That'll teach 'em.
Sorry about Spencer. Glad everything turned out okay. Just look at is providing the lifeguards an opportunity to do their jobs.
I actually did ask the life guard how he got past them and down the slide. She gave me the "You are such a lame mom and you are totally not pinning this on me even though it's at least half my fault. Oh, and I look way better than you in my bathing suit" look. Then she simply said "He snuck through."
The life guard who helped me fill out the incident report was actually a lot friendlier (which is probably why they have him do the incident reports) and told me that "this kind of thing happens all the time". I think it was supposed to make me feel better, but didn't...
As for the teenage Neil dissers - I suspect they would have been mortified to know that their moms probably love Neil. It would have been great to see that look on their faces!
Have they never seen "Saving Silverman" with Jason Biggs and Jack Black. The one where the friends are in a Neil Diamond coverband and they Kidnap Neil to get him to stop a wedding for love. "Thats what Neil Diamond is for."
I'm so glad you posted that about Spencer. It makes me feel a tiny bit better somehow about the 4 or so times Hazel has almost drowned. :)
