Yesterday Josh, Cole, and I ran errands all morning. I was only able to do this because Josh was in a rare good mood. (Is it wrong that my three-year-old's moods dictate my life so much? Part of me says "Yes". The other part says "Whatever. I'm tired.")
Anywho, I decided to put some gas in the van right before we picked up Spencer from school. Josh and I have a little game where I pretend to be the car talking when it's time to get gas.
Me (In my car voice, which sounds vaguely Eastern European with a slight lisp. No, I don't know why.): Ooooooh! I'm hungry! I need some gas! Fill me up!
Josh: Nooooooo!
Me as the Car: But I'm soooo huuuuuuuunnngggrrryy! I am going to be dead if I don't eat! Take me to the gas station!
Josh: No. You need to drink juice!
Me as the Car: Juice? Juice?! Cars don't drink juice! We drink gas!
Josh: No. You drink juice.
Me as Myself: Oh, should we take the car to the Juice Station?
Josh (quite delighted with the idea): Yeah!! The Juice Station!
Me as Myself: But I don't think cars like to have juice in them. It makes them sick.
Josh: Would they asplode?
Me as the Car: Yes! If we get juice in us we explode! I don't want juice!
Josh: No! Juice station! Juice station! Asplode! Hahahaha!
Me as Myself: Well, okay. Here we are at the juice station. I better go fill up the van with juice! I hope we don't explode!
At this point I filled up the van. While I was standing outside I could hear Josh fussing and crying about something or other. I didn't pay much attention to it because this is not uncommon; he usually wants to get out and help.
I got back into the car and Josh started getting more hysterical. He was to the point that I couldn't understand him anymore. I was pretty sure he was just mad that I didn't let him out of the van. I decided to just ignore him. As I started the car he let out an ear-piercing scream, "NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!"
I turned around and looked at him. Poor Josh look absolutely terrified but he had stopped crying and screaming.
Me: Joshie, what is wrong?
Josh: *something incomprehensible*... asploooode.
Oh boy.
World's. Worst. Mother. Moment.
The poor child was absolutely convinced the car was going to explode once I started it.
I quickly explained that I was just teasing and that I didn't fill up the car with juice. I would never do anything to make the car explode! From then on we would only go to the gas station, not the Juice Station.
At which point my normal Joshie came back. He stuck out his bottom lip and with as much attitude as possible he growled, "I WANT THE JUICE STATION! I hate this car."
That child...

Thanks Maren-- and thanks to your kids. I got a good belly laugh out of that one!
Your kids may make you cry, but they make us laugh!
