Issues With Weight

Do you remember Cole having issues with food?  He was slightly jaundiced and not in the slightest bit interested in waking up for something as trivial as eating.  This affected my milk supply and led to all sorts of frustrations.

So with Tess I was all set to make sure that my milk supply came in correctly and we wouldn't have any problems.

Tess has other ideas.

Even though she was eating very well and all the time in the hospital, she still lost quite a bit of weight.  She went from 8lbs 7oz on her birthday to 7lbs 10oz the Friday after she was born.  Her pediatrician and I decided that although she was nursing and my milk came in fine, she wasn't nursing long enough to really get to the good stuff.  So all this week I've been working on hard on getting her to nurse longer and better.

I think I did a pretty good job.  There were even times she had to unlatch because she was getting so much milk.  (TMI again?  Too bad.)

But still today at her weigh-in she was only a light weight at 7lbs 10oz, which means she only gained around half and ounce each day, instead of the full ounce that is average.  It's just on the cusp of being okay, and she looks good, has good color, and all her vitals are fine, but her pediatrician is still cautious.

Dang it.

So back to the doctor we'll go next Friday as well.  Hopefully this week she'll get her act together, but since she has now caught the cold Cole so graciously shared with her, I'm not holding my breath.  I just hope this doesn't all lead to pumping.  My body does not like pumping and I am not very good at it, even with all of the practice I had with Cole.

Does Tess not know that proper Madsen babies are chunky and have fat rolls?  Time to get your act together, Tess, and quit being a lazy eater.  WAKE UP!  Eat, Eat, EAT!  More, More, MORE!

In the mean time, here are some pictures of our little froggy-legged Tess.  I know, it's mean to call her that, but c'mon, she has froggy legs.

I also call her Lizard Skin Tess, since she's currently shedding her newborn skin.  Poor Tess.  She doesn't realize yet that she has the world's meanest mother.

I'm not tooooo worried about all this; I know she'll survive.  But she really needs to put some meat on her bones if she's gonna survive her three brothers.

So we had our share of issues with weight gaining with Marcella and long story short we have a nice $500 baby scale, that gets used...ya never, so if you want to borrow it, you are more than welcome to.
She is so cute! I love those little legs.
