Mother's Day 2013

I usually try to have at least one picture with my kiddos on Mother's Day.  But this year my kids actually let me sleep in on Sunday, so I was running a bit late this morning for church and didn't have time.  And then we got home everyone was wild and crazy and I decided that my Mother's Day gift to myself would be NOT forcing everyone to take a picture.  (It was a good gift.) ((Plus, I'm forcing everyone to take family and personal pictures next week.  BWAHAHAHA!))

Mother's Day actually started earlier this week when Josh brought home his Kindergarten Mother's Day gift. Josh is so cute because he really loves this type of thing and works really hard on it.  (Spencer, on the other hand, only tolerates crafts and such.  Even when it's for his darling mother.)

First, I got a hand drawn bag.  He drew a rainbow because "girls like rainbows".  It's true.  We really do.

Inside was this cute note.  Translations below.

"I love you because
You tuck me in at night
You calm me down
You take me to Pink Walrus
You help me write
You cook me dinner"

It's enough to make a momma's heart melt.

There was also a flower plant in the bag.  I'm pretty sure it's an amaryllis, but I guess only time will tell.  We'll plant it in the garden this week and see how things go.

*Random but not-so-very-random side note: my kids' school has sent home no less than FOUR different plants with my children over the past month.  First, Spencer came home with a cabbage plant.  You read that right. Apparently all the third graders around here are having a contest to see who can grow the biggest cabbage over the summer.  I was reading online about it and apparently these cabbages get HUGE.  Like, bigger than a baby huge.  Like, require six square feet of ground huge.  I'm still trying to figure out where to put the dang thing, because there's no way I'm giving up that much space in my garden for a cabbage.  Sheesh.  Anyway, then Josh came home with a bean plant.  That's not so bad.  But then Spencer came home with a mystery sapling for Arbor Day and was quite put out that I wasn't willing to plant it.  Um, sorry Spencer (and Ms. Wilson), but I'm not in the habit of planting unknown trees on my property.  I'm a jerk like that.  Anywho, then there's this last flower, which is actually something I appreciate because it won't be giant and I'm 75% sure of what it is.*

Anyways, back to Josh.  The bag also contained this masterpiece.  Boy, was he proud.  It's been in my kitchen for several days, getting knocked down and moved and dirty because Tess and Cole love it, too.  He's still so proud of it.

At church today each mom got a long-stemmed rose, which was nice.  Even nicer were the coupons all the children made in primary.  I'm totally saving these and using them! (Translations below.)

Josh's coupons:
-Help cook lunch
-Do your (mom's) chores
-Set and clear the table
-Wear good clothes (this is funny because we often fight about what he's wearing)
-Help cook dinner
-Do your (mom's) chores
-Play outside anytime
-Say please and vacuum

Spencer's coupons:
-Watching Tess
-Watching Cole
-Picking up the basement
-Watering the garden
-Vacuuming
-Washing the dishes
-Wild card!  Anything! (I'm totally saving this one for something good.)
-Vacuuming the car

Now we all know I already got a most excellent early Mother's Day gift. So I was a bit surprised when Josh handed me this card.  (Which, he pointed out, he had colored very carefully.)

The inside might just be the best Mother's Day card prose I have ever read.

That's right!  I AM better than all those other moms. (I don't know who those other moms are, but I'm better than them!  I should embroider that on a pillow or something.)  There was also a gift card for a Mother's Day spa package inside.  How wonderful!  Made even better because I wasn't expecting anything.  When asked when I was going to use it I said on Father's Day, haha.

I am very happy to be a mom.  It's hard work.  Very hard.  And kinda gross some times.  Really gross.  But I feel blessed and humbled in my motherhood.  I have great kids and an even better husband (better than all those other husbands).  I'm one lucky momma.
