Lance's mom sent us a gingerbread house kit last week so tonight we finally put it together. The boys were ecstatic, but of course I didn't get any pictures of them. Of course.
Anywho, this kit came from Sweden. The Swedes must have different standards as far as child safety is concerned, because they recommended using melted sugar to hold the house pieces together. As in 186 degree melted sugar. Riiiigggghhhttt. Notice the encouragement they give at the end of the packaging.
I decided to go the all-American route and just use royal icing.
We decided that a family of Teddy Grahams would live in the house. Here's Mommy and Daddy bear.
Cute, right? And then things took a turn for the worse.
Omigoodness! That bear is falling off of the roof!
This bear is playing on the roof. That's innocent enough, right?
Wrong! He totally pushed that Junior Mint onto that poor, unsuspecting bear down there! He's been squashed flat!
Just look how upset his little bear friends are!
And here's my attempt at making an icing snowman. He turned more into a snow Jabba the Hut.
Oh boy. Never a dull moment at the Madsen house.

The volume measurements in the instructions are in metric. No wonder that bear died.
