I am in the rather unfortunate position of having two children in diapers right now. Even more unfortunate is the fact that both children are in sizes that are NOT carried in the Sam's Club generic brand. (Curse you, Sam's Club diaper sizes!!) So for now my kids get fancy Huggies.
The other day I opened a new box for Tess and discovered that the diapers now have a yellow stripe down the middle that turns blue when the diaper is wet.
I've been musing over this for a few days.
See, I figure that even the greenest mom can probably figure out whether or not a diaper is wet, even without a diaper meter. What these diapers really need is a meter that tells you just how full the diaper is. The levels could be something along the lines of:
Level 1: Dry for now but not for long!
Level 2: Meh, you've got a good 30-45 minutes left in this diaper.
Level 3: Yeah, I'd probably change this baby soon. Especially if you're headed out.
Level 4: Change the diaper. Now.
Level 5: Don't. Make. Any. Sudden. Moves.
Now that's a meter any mother would appreciate.

Yeah, when the blue stripe has started to blur around the edges, then I know it's time to change those diapers!
Have you looked into Amazon Mom for diapers and wipes? I've never bought any at Sam's, but I've looked at them. If I'm remembering prices right, you can get diapers for even less through Amazon Mom. Plus, they show up at your doorstep. That's a huge perk to me, and I only have one kid to drag around on errands. Unless, of course, diaper runs are your solo mom time.
I am ashamed that I first fell for this trick of the diaper companies right when Brian was born. They make me question my judgment and in turn I buy MORE diapers because I used double what I should have.
Try Target brand of diapers (Up & Up). They are the same if not better than Huggies. Seriously. And they are cheaper...MUCH. I have converted several of my friends to the Target brand. No leaks. I can't recommend them enough, they are fantastic!!!! I will never go back to name brand, these are really good!
