But something came over me this year and I decided we should have an April Fools dinner. (I think it's because I got released as a counselor in RS this weekend. Even though I knew it would happen eventually, I didn't think it would be so soon, especially not during such a crazy busy week for RS. It was a bit of a shock for all of us in the presidency. So maybe this dinner was a little RS PTSD? Is it weird that this is how I reacted?)
On the menu:
"Shepherd's Pie"
Complete with Coco Crispies meat, Airheads peas and carrots, and marshmallow fluff mashed potatoes.
Jello Juice.
And meatloaf mashed potatoes.
With mashed potato "frosting" and cherry (tomato) sprinkles.
Spencer caught on to everything pretty quick and was a good sport about it.
Tess was REALLY confused by the Jello. It rocked her little 3 year old mind.
And Cole? Cole was okay at first - and then he got mad. That boy likes Jello, but he LOVES juice. He was quite upset, and at one point said "WHY IS THIS NOT JUICE? WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS TO ME!???!??!"
Tess was really, really excited about the cupcakes. She didn't even notice that Spencer refused to eat one. She took a big bite of the frosting and was quite upset. It took a good 15 minutes to convince her to eat anything else. (She had even helped me make the peas and carrots and refused to touch them.)
I even tricked Lance a little bit by putting white chocolate pudding in a sour cream container. Actually, I think he was more alarmed by the off-white color than the fact that I was putting some on my sweet bread. But whatever.
Spencer and Josh quite enjoyed it all, especially because they basically just ate dessert for dinner.
Well, my kids probably won't trust my cooking for a month, but that's okay because they rarely eat what I cook without complaining anyway. At least this time I had a bit of fun!
