My (big) little Joshie turned two years old today. And for a good portion of the day he perfectly acted the stereotypical part of a two year old:

Ah, yes. The terrible twos. Spencer didn't get them until he was three. Joshie's making up for that by starting early and hard. He now has epic screaming tantrums several times a day. Aren't I the lucky one? (Fortunately, being a mother has made me hard and emotionless - at least when it comes to tantrums.)
I've decided that in our family we'll have friend birthday parties on the even birthdays and family parties on the odd years. That said, we only had a family party for this one. Yes, I'm a bad mother. A bad mother who has recently had a million things to do. Plus, it's not like two year olds are known for how well they play with others. That's just one more stress I didn't need. And Josh doesn't know any better anyways.
There, rationalization done.
Earlier this week I was asking Josh where he would like to go for his birthday dinner. McDonald's, Wendy's, Burger King? (Nothin' but the best, baby!) He replied with "My happy birthday at Chuck E Cheese!"
Well.
(And yes, my two year old did say that. He speaks really well for his age. People are always commenting on it.)
So it was off to Chuck E Cheese this evening. Way fun, especially if you're a two or four year old little boy.

Then it was home for some cake and presents.
I just have to say that all little kids are cute when they blow out their birthday candles - but Joshie is especially cute. (Hey, the video can't lie!)
Then it was time for presents! (I think Spencer was just as excited as Josh.) Big thanks to Grandpas and Grandmas for the great gifts. I love his reactions to the presents - classic Joshie.
And yes, that is a marshmallow gun. Thanks, Dad. You're right, it's not a noisy toy. (Did you catch the sarcasm there?)

The big gift of the evening was the GeoTrax grand central station, plus an extra train. (Because having only one train with two little boys? MISTAKE.) So of course we all had to play with it for a while. I'm just happy we happened to have the 12 AAA batteries it needed, otherwise it wouldn't have been pretty...

Finally, it was time for cake! (More on the cake itself later...) I thought Josh was picking MMM's (his pronunciation) off.
He was actually doing this.
Nice one, Josh.
The cake went over pretty well. Not as messy as last year, but that's okay.

High in sugar and excited about trains, it was a fun bed time. (Note the sarcasm again...) It ended in tears and complaints... a sure sign of a GREAT birthday.

Love, Love, Love the cake.
I'm totally going to copy your cake idea for Dom's 2nd b-day! M&Ms are his favorite. I would be the best mommy in the whole wide world!
The cake looked great! And I think that was the best blowing of candles I've ever seen in a kid. Normally they are so slobbery.
Such a sweet 2-year old!!! I can't believe he is two and that Connor is only 2 months behind. Crazy!! We LOVE GeoTrax at our house. It's bad, but when we get the GeoTrax out it's me who ends up wanting to buy more track and more stuff...it's such fun! I love your M&M cake! And uhhh..nice "not noisy" present from Grandpa!! Grandpa clearly has a sense of humor!!!
