Being A Mom Means...

  • Reading the same book for the millionth time to your toddler while simultaneously nursing the baby and buttoning your five year old's pants.
  • Getting all gussied up for lunch with your husband (nicer-than-normal clothes, styled hair, jewelry, make-up), only to come home and have the baby spit up All. Over. You. So you end your day in old cotton capris and a t-shirt with your hair pulled back.
  • Having your two-year-old throw a tantrum on the floor while you're checking out at Sam's Club and being able to completely ignore him and everyone who is staring.
  • Not really caring if your kids eat Cracker Jacks off of the pavement at the park. It'll only make them stronger, right?
  • Having the right to say no to hot dogs for breakfast, no matter how much your kids beg.
  • Not seeing the latest Harry Potter movie the first week it's out because the bebe is just a tad too little (for my taste) to be left with a sitter. (Oh, the sacrifices!)
  • Plunking down $100 on diapers and wipes during one shopping trip.
  • Being brave and killing the Big Spider even though you're not too keen on killing big spiders.
  • Listening to your five-year-old give a 20 minute play-by-play recount of his latest computer game and acting interested.
  • Not being the least bit surprised to find little boy underpants in the toy drawer.
  • Not being the least bit surprised to find a plastic army man in your make-up bag.
  • Realizing that your house not only does not need to be but simply Can Never Be 100% clean. Ever. Not even for just one minute. And that's okay.
  • Having little boys fight over who gets to hold your hand.
  • Having the best job in the world.

Go ahead and take Cole to the movies. I took Ruby with me to see star trek and she slept the whole time. We are going to Harry Potter tonight with her --and I hope I'm not cursing myself by saying this-- with a blanket to cover her ears it should be fine.

I completely agree...I have had a post like this rolling around in my brain about how being a mom means finding toys under the covers of your bed and the fridge magnets perpetually on the kitchen floor. You're so eloquent.
