The boys decided to help me out with a little spring cleaning today in the kitchen.
And by spring cleaning I mean flooding.
And by flooding I mean totally taking advantage of my trust and my poor health and being the little heathens that they are.
And also flooding.
So here's the thing: my kidlets love to play in the water in the sink. It's one of their favorite things, but I don't let them do it a lot because they always get pretty wet. They get the counters around the sink a wet, too, but nothing too major. So I let them play today because they were really bored and bugging me and I wasn't feeling too great and had a moment of madness.
I actually kept a pretty close eye on them for the most part. I was puttering around the house, trying to catch up on all the housework that has been ignored since Saturday. But then *ahem* nature called. So I told Spencer that he had to turn the water off and play nicely, and that I expected him to be a big boy and behave. (Meaning, don't pick on your little brother while I'm out of the room.)
I left for two, maybe three minutes. (Which I have, in my defense, done many-a-time.)
Big mistake.
As I came closer to the kitchen I could hear splashing, spraying water, and naughty giggling. I rushed in to discover 1/4" of water on all of the counters, water all over the floor, the sink overflowing, and two sopping wet little boys.
Me: Spencer! Did you turn the water on?
Spencer (looking around guiltily): Um, no.
Me: Spenceeeerrr, did you spray Joshie with the sprayer?
Spencer (holding the sprayer in Joshie's general direction): Um, no.
Joshie (with a drip of water falling off his nose): Yay!
At this point I froze. I had to try so hard not to laugh. Also, I was torn between running to get the camera and running to get all the spare towels we had. Logic won and I got the towels.
Poor Spencer and Josh were whisked from their chairs and summarily dismissed to their rooms to change. Spencer wasn't allowed to play computer for the rest of the day. (Oh, the horror!) Joshie was oblivious to being in trouble and happily ran around in just a diaper while I cleaned up.
It took several big bath towels and at least 15 minutes to dry everything up. On the plus side, my counters haven't been this thoroughly cleaned in a while.
Um, thanks boys.

How funny. Kids just seem to know when you aren't feeling well and think that extra housework is the perfect medicine! It must be instict!
Sharing time!
When I was a kid, we did a similar thing to my mom while she was sick and taking a nap. We wanted to help her by mopping the floor. She claims I was the ring leader, but I still remember that bringing the hose in through the back door was all Ryan's idea! You know Ryan, right? Now doesn't that sound more like him than me?
My oldest son would also keep good company with your boys. Two summers ago, I think it was, he and his brilliant buddies decided how fun it would be to bring the sprinkler into their living room. What a party they had! Luckily for me, this was not my son's idea -or else I'm sure my mom would have cited genetics as the cause.
Jase always feels the need to do the same thing, at least play with water in the sink, etc. Glad you're feeling better...
A sprinkler in the house?! Okay, this summer I am hiding all the sprinklers because that is totally something my kids would do.
