A couple of weeks ago we decided to get rid of cable. I found that the only time I ever watch live TV was in the morning making breakfast and in the evening making dinner. So Lance bought an antenna and put it in the attic and it works pretty well. It doesn't reach the Indy NBC affiliate, but I'm learning to like... um... appreciate the local news. Hah! We'll be saving about $40-$50 a month, so that's totally worth it.
My kids haven't even really noticed the difference. Anything they watch is streamed; having to wait for a specific night or time is a completely foreign concept to them!
Funny thing is, I totally remember the first time my family got cable when I was a kid. My dad was in grad school and we lived in this little duplex in Raleigh, North Carolina. I remember my mom having to explain how the cable box worked and showing me the channels that were just for kids. And the channels were so clear! No static or anything!
After that the thought of not having cable seemed pretty ridiculous. And now the thought of keeping it for as long as we did seems just as ridiculous.
And now I sound and feel exceptionally old.
The times, they are a'changin.
