I'm not sure why, but our kids feel particularly picked on when they have to help in the kitchen. Each weeknight each child has one rotating job: set the table, clear the table, load the dishwasher, and wipe the counters.
You'd think we were promoting child slave labor with all the fuss they make. Loading the dishwasher is by far the most hated job, followed by setting the table.
I hear lots of "But WHY do I have to do this?!" Cole's had the audacity to actually ask me why I can't do it myself, since I spend so much time in the kitchen anyways.
Growl.
When told these are the kinds of things they have to learn to be successful adults they roll their eyes. When told I'm not going to be around forever to do this for them they look at me incredulously. When told (exasperatedly) that I'm lazy and I'm just making them do it because I don't want to, they look at me as if to say "I KNEW IT."
Regardless of the reasons or the looks of get, it's nice to have kids old enough to help clean up around here.
