I started my day with a fairly impressive bloody nose at 1:30am. I woke up feeling it trickle down my face, and got blood on my pajamas and sheets. It was gross and weird because I never get nose bleeds and I was totally disoriented because I wasn't in my own house and I was still super tired from traveling the day before. Nothing like starting a trip with some middle-of-the-night laundry!
I do not recommend this.
I went back to sleep only to wake up at 5:30 because of jet lag.
I do not recommend this either.
However, I was eventually able to go back to sleep for a couple of hours, and then my day got better. I got to go on a really pretty walk with Dad and Susie. Fall is in full force here right now and I just love it!
Then I got to run errands and work on things (like a photo wall) for Grandma's birthday party tomorrow.
This afternoon I helped my Dad and Susie sort through some boxes of stuff - things like baby books, blessing outfits, and my mom's "treasures of trash". (Mom's words, not mine!) Dad and Susie are really good about not throwing old family stuff away without asking us kids about it. Perhaps too good - my dad still had a box with my mom's old retainer in it from when she was a teenager! Perfectly acceptable to get rid of that and a bunch of other old stuff.
They also gave me a bunch of the crystal ornaments that belonged to my mom and some that even belonged to her mom, since Dad and Susie don't use them on their tree. Awesomesauce. (We all know I am a third generation tree snob. And proud of it!)
I also set aside several other family things - things no one really wants to keep, but I think it should take pictures of just to remember them. For example: my Grandma Burgoyne's trophy from being named Utah State's Homecoming Queen in 1948. Isn't that so cool?! As you can see, the trophy is broken pretty much beyond repair. And really, what would any of us do with someone else's trophy. But I feel like I should at least document its presence. Hopefully I can get some better pictures of it in natural light thus weekend.
The day ended with a delicious 4 course dinner cooked by my brother Kyle. Who knew a professional lawn mower would be such a good cook?! (Just kidding on the lawn mower thing.)
I miss my family, but I could get used to quick Utah trips like this! (Minus the nose bleeds. Oy!)
