Actually, they were pretty good, all things considered. Only one meltdown during the whole day, and it only lasted around five minutes, so not bad.The main reason we went shopping was to get Spencer some new shoes. I've decided that at this point in our life it's more wise to spend a little bit more on good quality shoes and have them last a long time, rather than buy cheap shoes that wear out in a month or so. (Spencer is HARD on shoes.) So we went to Stride Rite because they have excellent shoes at good prices. (I can't bring myself to pay full price for Stride Rite shoes, though.)
Showing that he takes after his mother as far as shoes go, Spencer fell in love at first site with these:

I think it's the silver stripes on the side that did him in. They're pretty awesome.
I thought they were $19.99, (originally $50) which is a great deal. (Side note: who pays $50 on kids shoes?!?) We tried them on, they fit, and he wouldn't take them off. So we went up front to pay for them and they rang up at $27. I double checked the price - sure enough, I had been looking at the wrong sign.
Dang.
I know I said I was willing to pay a bit more for kid's shoes, but $27 seemed a little steep to me. Probably because I thought they were $20. So I told the sales lady to hold the sale, thinking that I would just have to tell Spencer they were too much and we had to find some different ones. (Spencer's actually pretty good at understanding when something 'costs too much money'.)
But then I looked over at him.
He was running around the entrance, telling anyone near him "Look at my new shoes! They make me run fast and jump high!" And then he would jump and run some more. Total cuteness. Total kid happiness. Total meltdown if I tried to take them off his feet.
My heart melted and I paid for the shoes. I figured his extreme happiness and avoiding a wrestling/screaming match was worth $7.
My heart also melted when I found this red velvet jacket at Eddie Bauer, 50% off. I have a small problem with jackets - I LUUURVE THEM. I think a good jacket can stay in fashion for years, and they always make you seem a bit more polished and on top of things. (Even if you aren't!) This season it has been very hard not to buy all of the cute bolero jackets, and since I haven't bought a single one I splurged and bought this. (I don't think the picture I took does it justice.)
I imagine myself wearing this with a rockin' pair of dark jeans and some great high heeled boots. (Neither of which I have, but a girl can dream.) My jacket and I would go night clubbin' and dancin' and all the guys would want to marry me and I would say "Sorry, boys, but the jacket and I are already taken."Or I could just wear it to pick Spencer up from preschool and impress the other moms. One of the two.

LOVE the jacket! I think that was a very smart purchase; I'm sure you'll get lots of use out of it -- whichever situation arises ;)
