Keep Your Air to Yourself

Today was my first day of teaching primary. I teach the 7/8 year old class. It went pretty well. The kids were excited and happy and as good as they could be.

Well, as good as six boys and two girls can be for two hours, anyways!

Lots of wiggles and talking and teasing and poking and just plain 'kidness'. But my favorites included the random comments, random things in prayers, and the phrases I found myself saying. Here are few that I remember:

(said during prayers)
- Thank you for our oxygen
- Thank you for our environment
- Thank you for our beautiful earth, even Lafayette
- Please help us to make it to the circus next year
- Thank you for our new teacher, sister... uhhhh....

(random comments in class)
- No! If you break your neck, you're dead. DEAD!!
- But we gotta fight! We're boys and that's what boys gotta do!
- ... and then he fell off his horse and they called the ambulance and they fixed him
- It feels like we've been at church for at least 80 hours!

(things I found myself saying)
- Keep your hands to yourself (said about 632 times!)
- No, we will not be building forts out of the chairs today.
- Keep your air to yourself!

I also gave them this really hard quiz at the end of class:

Then I heard comments like:

- Really hard? This is the easiest quiz I have ever taken in my life!
- (5 seconds later) Wait, what's my favorite candy? This is really hard!
